Good book overall except it radically changes food habits for ...

Good book overall except it radically changes food habits for Indians & what I mean by that is there is no recipe with Rice or Wheat we are normally used to for all our life & hence adoption takes little longer as one has to develop taste buds for new things in eating, which by any means is not easy.

Also I'm little disappointed that it doesn't come with pdf version, so if you are travelling it becomes difficult to carry this book. I would highly recommend author to have pdf version ASAP & also offer it to existing customers to have it.

About the Author
The Author: With a Ph.D. in American Civilization from Brown University, Melvin Donalson is a published poet, fiction writer, and essayist. In addition, he is a screenwriter and director, having completed an award-winning short film, which was shown on Showtime’s Black Filmmakers Showcase. The author of Black Directors in Hollywood (2003) and Masculinity in the Interracial Buddy Film (2006), he is currently Associate Professor in the English Department at California State University in Los Angeles.

I loved In Stitches!

I bought this book after reading one of Dr. Youn's articles on cnn.com. I always enjoy reading autobiographies and memoirs, and this is one of my favorites by far. Some parts were so funny that I laughed out loud and couldn't stop thinking about them the next day. There were also moments that were extremely touching and a bit sad. The narrative is witty, descriptive and moves along at a good pace.

Dr. Youn covers a lot of ground in this book, but in the end you really have a good sense of what a funny, genuine, caring person he is, and the ups and downs he experienced on the road to becoming a renowned plastic surgeon. I really had a hard time putting it down and am definitely planning on giving it a second read through.

If you are looking for a great summer read, do not hesitate to pick up this book. You will not be disappointed!

Tony Youn keeps us in stitches with his memoir

It's a bit off-putting when someone as young as my son feels compelled to write a memoir. So this book had a strike against it before I turned to the first page. "Double D's", he writes, "Pam Anderson, eat your heart out. Too bad they're attached to a fourteen-year-old boy." From that point on, I was smitten by Dr. Youn's story-telling and couldn't put the book down until I (too quickly) reached the last page.

Youn starts out by describing how it feels to grow up as only one of two Asian-Americans in a small Midwestern town. Not only did he have to deal with being "different" from everyone else, he also had "Coke-bottle glasses, Hannibal Lecter headgear, a bowl cut, and a protruding jaw that grew even faster than his comic-book collection."

The first part of the book is a coming of age story with Youn agonizing about fitting in, being cool, and most importantly, finally getting a girlfriend. While he is worrying over these typical teen goals, his father, a hard-working Korean immigrant ObGyn, has other plans for Tony. "Doctor is the only thing. Every other job is not good for you. You have to make Daddy proud." In fact from the time he is born, Daddy, wants Anthony to not only be a doctor, but..."A Surgeon. Vascular. Big money"...no wait, not vascular, "Transplant surgery. That's the big money...One surgery. Ten thousand dollah. For one hour. Early retirement. Mercedes-Benz. Condo in Florida..." And, of course, he should marry a nice Korean girl.

In the sixth grade, Tony's jaw starts growing (for reasons that are not clear). He envisions himself a "cartoon kid with a massive jutting Jay Leno jaw" - not so good for your self-esteem. He deals with it by becoming, in his words, Tony Youn, nerd! But all that changes when he is sent away to boarding school to "get a jump on my classes and begin studying for the SATS" (still two years away). Here for the first time he meets some very cool Korean-American kids. They take him under their wings and by the time he heads back to Greenville, Michigan, his home town, he is cool. He is also taller (six feet) and now has "a new haircut, a new wardrobe, new designer glasses, and new music." He makes it into the in-crowd. Right after graduation from high school he gets surgery to reduce the size of his jutting jaw. By college, he says, "my ugly stage [is] behind me."

His college years are all about studying and getting the grades to get into medical school...except for the time he spends trying to finally to make it with the girls. He shares some pretty funny stories about his failures in this arena - it is "chick lit" only for guys.

Then he starts med school and has an experience I think many of us had--he meets a handful of fellow students who form his inner circle and go on to become life-long friends. He studies hard, aces his rotations, and toys briefly with becoming a family doc. "Family practice," Daddy says when Tony tells him his plans, "You make no money...Work all day, all night, weekend, no money. Go broke!....Surgery! One proceejah, two thousand dollars." Later, Daddy changes his mind. "If you want to go into family practice, it's okay," he tells him. "Daddy understands. You do what makes you happy." Best Medical Memoir I've Read All Year

I've read ALL the medical memoirs - Atul Gawande's, Another Day In the Frontal Lobe, Weekends @ Bellevue --- you name it. And this was by far my favorite in recent memory. Dr. Youn is hilarious and his wry, sarcastic humor leaps off the page. His perspective on medical school and on his demanding Asian parents was so honest and his observations stuck with me for days. He's obviously an extremely caring person, but also doesn't hesitate to reveal some of his inner thoughts, including that he originally went to medical school....for the girls. I really really enjoyed this book - I recommend it to anyone who wants a laugh and an interesting story.

An Ideal Study Guide

For me, this study guide was ideal. It gave me a solid outline of what I needed to brush up on before taking the exam. The test was easy, but I found the answer key to be a review in and of itself. The answers gave in-depth reasoning as to why they were correct, instead of just answers, which helped me to prepare. When I got an answer wrong, I knew exactly why I got it wrong and what the right answer was, but I even learned from the answers that I got right, because there was so much material in each explanation.

I was able to distinguish between Energy Use Index and Energy Cost Index, which I was having problems keeping straight. I was also able to better understand what the Life Cycle Cost (LCC) Analysis is, and to remember what the different government agencies are.

The exam secrets book also has helpful test taking tips, which proved to be useful. There are companion flashcards to Certified Energy Manager Exam Secrets, which I purchased, and I was thoroughly happy with how expansive and in-depth they were.

This book has so much information crammed into such a small book. I have come to distrust small study guides, so I wasn't pleased when I saw this one. It was much better than I had expected, however.

It is full of great information for the exam. The following are only a few of the very many topics covered in this study guide: 20 Test-taking tips; Codes and standards and indoor air quality; HVAC systems; Lighting; Green buildings; Motors and drives; and Boiler and steam systems. Again, those are only a few. There are so many more covered in this guide.

There are explanations and tips, and there are practice questions and answers. There is everything a person could possibly need to prepare for this exam.

This was the only study material I used. The test isn't easy, and without this book I would have had no chance of passing. Pay special attention to the "Remember This" sections - they have very appropriate and useful suggestions. Good luck!

My one stop shop for everything Security Plus.

This Book is simply amazing. It does an incredible job of explaining the concepts and gives real world examples of security principles so you get a better idea of what you're dealing with. Personally, I was required to take this for my job, and was only given 9 days to study. I am happy to report that I managed to score an 841, and I essentially owe it all to Mr. Gibson and his extremely helpful materials.

For anyone looking for primary study material, look no further. This is it. This is really the only book you will need. Since I was in such a time crunch, I combined this book with the Dariil Gibson Security Plus phone application (http://learnzapp.com/partners/darrilgibson/) for reading on the go when it wasn't practical to have my book, and finally the Darril Gibson website that has premium content such as more questions with full explanations and even 6 Performance based questions (https://gcgapremium.com/member-home/).

All in all, I passed what is considered a really hard test for some in only 9 days due to some extremely well written, and easy to understand material.

This a great starting point for standing up formal accounting policies and procedures, or as a tool to help evaluate (and modify) what is currently in place. It's saved me hours and hours of time! Instead of starting polices from scratch, this serves as a prefect starting point. Easy to modify to meet the needs of your business (whatever the size).

About the Author

Leslie Holmes is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Melbourne; and a recurrent visiting professor at the Graduate School of Social Research in Warsaw, the University of Bologna, and the People's University in Beijing. When I chose this title from the Vine programme, the evening news was inundated with the news of Fédération Internationale de Football/soccer Association (FIFA) and the ensuing claims of avarice, corruption, bribery, and alleged vote-rigging. This is an organisation, which also has charitable status.

This pocket-sized title aims to give the reader a jump start, or primer in subject area of Corruption in a reasonably short, straight forward and concise fashion with an added section for those interested following up matters of interest in the subject. This AVSI edition is done in a very manageable fashion that is readable without getting technical in its approach. Cram packed with a plethora of information, without going into “overload!” any person new to the subject matter will not be daunted with this edition.

This is a subject which affects us all, and not (as some would see it a third world problem). There is a useful section on acronyms in use throughout the book, and there various meanings. As there is no definition of corruption “in what the United Nations calls the only legally binding universal anti-corruption instrument/organelle”, known as UNCAC (United Nations convection against corruption), as the parties that founded it could not agree on an overall definition. The book ‘ends’ with a further reading and study list for those who wish to explore certain aspects of the topic in more detail. This is rather well done edition, which in its intended purpose, espouses the very ethos of the ‘A Very Short Introduction' series and one that I recommend.

Excellent, clear, and uncorrupted

This series of book is excellent, asking an expert to condense their life's work and knowledge down to a manageable summary for intelligent readers in other walks of life. This particular volume illustrates well the strength of this series of books.

The book summarises well the nature of corruption. it covers what corruption is, how we can recognise it, how we can measure it, what its bad effects are and what we can do about it. It's a clear account specifying and defining the problem. The more you read its clear exposition the more you realise how great an injustice the persistence of corruption is. This book shows you exactly why corruption is so bad, and why it should not be tolerated.

It's a quick read, but it's also a thorough introduction to the topic.

I can readily recommend it to those who want or need to know about corruption.

What do you need to know about corruption?

Holmes's book covers all relevant aspects of corruption, including topics on definition, measurement, explanation and prevention of corruption. Readers of all levels are able to learn from it.

Informative, updated, precise and concise! This little book is a very nice introduction to the complex issue of corruption.
