About the Author
Halaevalu F.O. Vakalahi, PhD is Professor and Associate Dean, School of Social Work, Morgan State University, Baltimore, MD. Her areas of teaching include human behavior and the social work environment, social policy, organizational leadership, and cultural diversity. Her contribution to the profession and community includes serving in the Council on Social Work Education, National Association of Social Workers, and the Baltimore City Commission on Aging. Her areas of scholarship include Pacific Islander culture and community, specifically in relation to aging and intergenerational transmission of cultural values, beliefs, and practices, and the experiences of women of color in academia. Her publications in these areas of scholarship include numerous peer-reviewed articles, chapters, references, and co-edited-authored books including her most recent work titled Transnational Pacific Islanders and Social Work and The Collective Spirit of Aging across Cultures.

Great for any Social Work Major!

As a college student who recently switched her major to social work, my folks were concerned. This book was a great way to show them that social work is more than DCS and that this field can indeed, be lucrative. This book allowed me to show them that my decision was a strategic move, which then provided them some relief.
This book has also, been tremendously helpful in guiding me in the direction I want to take with social work. There were so many different aspects of the social work field that I was unaware of and now thanks to this book, I can make another great decision on where to take my education from here. THANK YOU!
